"Cute name, elegant decor and seriously good cooking: if you're after terrific Southern Indian tucker on the northern beaches you won't be disappointed. The vegetarian menu is extensive with entrees including poondu mushrooms, marinated in garlic and coriander and served on a sizzling hotplate $8.90, and ovenbaked eggplant with spiced potato, sultanas and cashews $13.90. Carnivores don't miss out, though, with all the usual lamb, chicken, beef and seafood options. Try jayara fish curry $16.90 and chicken kari ellu, made with toasted black sesame seeds, chickpeas, garlic and spices $16.90. There's a function room upstairs that can get rowdy at times."

"With a playful name and seriously good food on offer, you'll find plenty to satisfy both the stomach and hip pocket at this cosy candle-lit eatery. Southern Indian food has a strong vegetarian focus, but they don't neglect carnivores with lots of unusual options like chicken ellu with chickpeas, garlic, spices and nigella seeds, or the tangy kaffir lime beef, both $16.90. Back to the vegetables, though: a standout is the mushroom sizzler, served piping hot with garlic and coriander $8.90, with veg mains around $13.90. Another unusual dish, jayara fish curry $17.90, is worth a try. As with all dependable Indian diners, you'll find the usual lamb, chicken and seafood options, ranging from $15 to $18, and groups can get rowdy in the upstairs function room."

"This cheap, colourful Indian serving authentic-tasting southern cuisine is one of Newport's best (which, given the suburb's burgeoning reputation for quality eating, is saying something). As always with south Indian, vegetarians are very well catered for. Indeed, the piping hot, delicious mushroom sizzler with garlic and coriander $8.90 is a standout among the entrees. But there's also a dependable group of lamb, chicken and seafood options (mostly around $15), including perhaps the restaurant's must-have, jayara fish curry $16.90. The fun and recently renovated upstairs area is popular with groups."
